Trophy Tour arrives in World Cup bound Angola
LUANDA (Angola) – The Angola national team, which is gearing up for its sixth straight FIBA Basketball World Cup appearance, will in August travel to Manila to compete for the Naismith Trophy.
To whet the fans’ appetite for the upcoming campaign, the biggest prize in international basketball was taken to Angola on the Trophy Tour presented by J9, and it was shown on television and also photographed at famous locations.
The Iron Palace is painted yellow is made almost entirely of iron.
One such iconic spot was the Iron Palace (above) in Luanda, which was built in the late 1800s. The Iron Palace is quite a sight, a structure that’s painted yellow and is made almost entirely of iron.
National Slavery Museum in Luanda
It was photographed at the National Slavery Museum, which was founded in 1977 by the National Institute of Cultural Patrimony.
The museum, which educates visitors about the history of slavery in Angola, is next to the Capela da Casa Grande, a 17th-century structure where slaves were baptized before being put on slave ships for transport to the Americas.

The trophy was also photographed at the National Military Museum (below), which was founded in 1975. The museum includes statues like that of Njinga Mbandi.
Njinga Mbandi
Njinga Mbandi was a Southwest African ruler who served as queen of the Ambundu Kingdoms of Ndongo and Matamba, located in present-day northern Angola.
Also at the museum are airplanes, combat vehicles, arms and artifacts used during the Angolan War of Independence (1961–1974), the South African Border War (1966-1991), and the Angolan Civil War (1975–2002).
National Bank of Angola
While in Angola, the trophy was the subject of a Televisão pública de Angola program, Mais Domingo (Sunday Plus). Jose Moniz Silva, President of the Angolan Basketball Federation, was a special guest on the show.

Fans, meanwhile, were able to see to the trophy at the Belas shopping mall, where former national team player Luis Costa (below) was a special guest.
Providing television coverage of the event were TPA, TV Girassol and Supersport (South Africa).
Aníbal Moreira, an assistant coach of the national team who once played for Angola, was photographed (above) with the trophy.
Angola’s Minister of Sport, Palmira Barbosa and Hall and legendary player Angelo Victoriano were with the trophy when it made an appearance at the HCTA Hotel.
