Clarkson already training with Gilas, ready for World Cup

MANILA (Philippines) – Jordan Clarkson is set to play for the Philippines at the FIBA Basketball World Cup, according to the country’s basketball federation.

The Utah Jazz star, who suited up for Gilas in the Asian Qualifiers, arrived in the country on Tuesday morning and is already training with the team ahead of its Group A games against Italy, the Dominican Republic and Angola.

“Amazing,” he said. “I’m just excited to be with the team again.”

Clarkson played in two Asian Qualifiers games, averaging 25 points 6.5 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per contest.

The Philippines will open their World Cup campaign against the Dominican Republic on August 25 at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan. Clarkson will be the star attraction for hometown fans that flock to fill the stands.

Looking ahead to the country’s prospects, Clarkson said: “I think we’ve got a chance to do some things.”

Fans are still buzzing about Clarkson’s performances in the Asian Qualifiers.

He was spectacular in Manila against Saudi Arabia. In that game, he showed off his ability to knock down long three-pointers, including one from half-court. He was also a crowd-pleaser with his passing.

Gilas’ second game will be against Angola on August 27 and their third clash will be against Italy on August 29.
